I Want to marry you!

CEREMONY

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. Choosing the right marriage celebrant will make sure your day is a memorable one.

Your wedding ceremony should be as unique as the two of you. It should reflect your thoughts, personalities, ideas, beliefs, love and commitment to each other. Just like no two marriages are alike, nor are any two wedding ceremonies alike.

I encourage you to personalise your ceremony & provide resources to help you prepare a tailor made ceremony unique to your requirements,  I am enthusiastic and passionate about my work and can assist in creating a ceremony that is as individual as you are.  Together we can create a ceremony that is magical, memorable, meaningful, and reflects your desires.

You should feel comfortable with your celebrant and feel confident that he/she suits your needs and will complement your special day.

It may all seem overwhelming at first but we take it one step at a time and it comes together beautifully.

Legal Requirements

You will need to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (which I have or you can download it from the Attorney Generals website).

You must give at least one calendar month notice prior to the date you wish to be married but not more than 18months.

You will need your birth certificates (originals) and evidence that any prior marriage has been dissolved by either death or divorce.

There are only two paragraphs from the Marriage Act 1961 that have to be legally included in the ceremony and they are as follows:

"I am duly authorised by law to solemnise marriages according to law. Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are about to enter. Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life." Or words to that effect.

"I call upon the persons here present to witness that I, (name) take thee, (name) to be my lawful wedded wife. I call upon the persons here present to witness that I (name) take thee (name) to be my lawful wedded husband."

I will issue a prescribed Form 15 marriage certificate to you after your wedding as evidence of your marriage.  I will prepare three certificates of marriage containing the details of your marriage and you and your witnesses will be required to sign all three.

They are:

  • the certificate retained by myself for my records;
  • the certificate that will be forwarded to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages for the registration of your marriage; and
  • the certificate that will be given to you as a record of your marriage.

 My name is Mrs Sylvia Gomersall and I am a Registered Australian Civil Marriage Celebrant (9437).
